Sue Turner

I am a longstanding ceramic artist, teacher and Northern Potters Association member. Memory, relationships and the lived environment provide the subject matter for my making. I enjoy handbuilding using a wide variety of clays which are often combined within a piece of work pushing the boundaries to see what will happen in a harsh stoneware firing. I also incorporate other materials, groggs, grits, oxides and found fragments to enrich the clay body and surface. Recent work reflects the landscape around my home on the moor tops above the Calder Valley.

In 2022 I relaunched Brier Hey Pottery with my husband Barry, following the request of my friend David Constantine White, a prominent Northern Potter for many years (1948 – 2011).
